The Cloud Computing Paradigm Shift Is Bigger Than IT

"Information technology is changing so fast that innovations and the addition of more vendors with improved products and services occurs continuously," said Joe Brown, president of Accelera Solutions. "It's just naive to think that a single group of providers can cover the whole range of cloud and related applications."

Google Hires Headliner to Direct Government Relations

"What we're seeing here is a kind of natural maturation of the process of companies that are growing quickly and need to follow that up with better Washington representation. Google has a lot of issues including privacy, antitrust and copyright content," said Bill Allison, editorial director for the Sunlight Foundation.

Marketing to the Ubiquitous Cellphone

Marketers who aren't keenly focused on spreading their message through mobile technologies may soon see the boat sail away without them. A multiple-screen toggle for the browser is key to Opera's plans. The killer screen its products VP Frode Hernes talked about -- and drew out for me, scribbled on the back of a business card -- is a simple television image taking about two-thirds of the right of the screen, along with a thin vertical strip on the left side of the screen for Internet content. Think feeds, like a Twitter feed. This real estate split would be ideal for RSS feeds of podcasts and so on, too.

Keeping clients' systems from being breached is a security vendor's reason for being. But what happens when the vendor itself is breached? Whether to disclose that a system has been compromised can be a difficult question to answer, depending on the circumstances and what the infiltrator plans to do with the stolen information.
